Assessment Task

NPQH assessment comprises two projects which are submitted as a portfolio. You will present the plan for each project to the school's governing body prior to implementation, and gather their feedback. You will then submit a written account of each project in a single portfolio to NETSP for assessment.

Project 1

  • Lead change at a whole-school level, lasting at least 2 terms, to improve pupil progress and attainment.

Project 2

  • Undertake a placement in a contrasting school (for example, by performance, pupil profile, geography etc.), lasting at least 9 working days.
  • Research the placement school's current and/or projected resource and capability challenges, and design an action plan to address these.

Assessment - NPQH with 40 Masters' credits

Should you wish to obtain Masters' credits in addition to NPQH, once submitted, your work will be assessed against DfE criteria and Newcastle University Masters' level criteria.

NPQH with 40 Masters' credits incurs an additional cost of £400*. If you achieve the Masters' credits you can subsequently complete the Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) in Educational Leadership at Newcastle University next academic year. The cost of the remaining module of the PGCert is £1390*.

*This cost is for 2018/19, it may change in future years

Assessment - NPQH

Your work is submitted directly to NETSP and assessed against the Department for Education (DfE) criteria for the award of your NPQH.

Placements and Coaching

For Project 2, you will undertake a placement in a school. NETSP can provide contacts to help you to arrange this, or you may select another school subject to our approval.

All NPQH participants are entitled to 5 hours free coaching from a NETSP coach. You will be allocated a coach once you begin the programme. Your coaching relationship will facilitate critical reflection on and in practice and will encourage you to maintain a balance between theoretical understanding and practical expertise. Once we put you in touch with your coach, you can schedule your hours to suit you.

"My NETSP coach has been a fantastic help! She has coached me through, asked relevant questions and challenged me to be reflective."
